Arts Los Altos public art installation Grateful Harvest now graces the building of Kozy Brothers DeMartini Orchard. Completed in May 2024, this public art is the result of a collaboration between Arts Los Altos and the Kozy Family business. It invites viewers to reflect on the immense effort involved in bringing food to our tables and captures the essence of the partnership with the sun, nature, and the hands who work the land.

This art installation is painted by San Jose artist, Francisco Ramirez, and celebrates the complex relationships between people, agriculture and food, inviting the viewer to appreciate and enjoy this bright sunny morning of harvest. You can feel a bit of Los Altos history and the legacy of DeMartini Orchard. These elements are embedded in a painted frame that evokes 20th-century fruit crate labels.

For Ramirez, murals are like personal journals, growing from his experiences and emotions. He spent several weeks as a teenager cutting apricots, which instilled a deep appreciation for the hard work behind agricultural production he sought to honor in this mural Grateful Harvest.

The DeMartini Orchard sports a rich history as the oldest business in Los Altos. The Kozys have inspired the beloved Los Altos produce stand to evolve into the unique grocery store it is today.  Grateful Harvest was sponsored by the Kozy Family and Arts Los Altos for the public to enjoy.

How did he paint it?
